E-Business - Want Success? What’s in Your ‘Core’?
Ali Baraka
Read my articles. Many of them consist of the motivational, mental, and personal virtues it takes for success. I don’t know the actual percentages, but it has to be 40% or so of my articles that have to do with these factors. Some might say I write about it too much. I think I’m not making enough of it.
Your ‘core’ is going to determine your success. Your ‘core’ is going to determine your failure. If you succeed, your foundation of personal virtues is sound and full of quality insights. If you fail, then the fundamentals you’ve begun with STUNK. If you’re person B, then do what you have to do to gain what the winners have.
Peter Jackson is the Oscar winning Hollywood director of the Lord of the Rings trilogy, one of most successful movie series in film history. His schedule making those movies was grueling to say the least. He woke up at the crack of dawn, mostly on very few hours of sleep. Everyone on set looked to him for answers to tough questions. He was at the helm of one helluva daunting task.
He was confronted with a particularly tough day one time. He was ready to quit. But he asked himself a question that only a winner can ask, and I’m paraphrasing so bear with me: “Would I be doing anything else in life? The answer is no. So I kept going.”
Your skillsets can HELP you attain success. Your access to funding can HELP you attain success. Your fundamentals will MAKE your success. A quality mentality is fully 90% of what you will need to attain and keep success at anything you do.
Without sound virtues, you may attain early success; you may even keep it for a while. But virtues are not there for when things are going great, you must have them for when things inevitably go down the tubes. It is at these tough times when you dip into what is best about you, your work ethic, belief in yourself, persistence, patience, diligence, confidence, honesty, smarts. Have these winning characteristics and you’ll win every time. Period.
Over-cynicism, blaming others, self-pity, laziness, dishonesty, impatience. These are what the losers own. They will deny it every time, and they will prove me right every time.
Life is ebb and flow. You will always have ups and downs, irrespective of how full your bank account is. Hugh Hefner has bad days. A multi-mega-million dollar media empire, sex with several gorgeous 20-year-old women at 82 years old, and a legacy that will live on long after he’s gone, and I can promise you, the man has bad days from time to time. Life.
When you’re up, personal virtues are less important. Just keep doing what you’ve been doing and you’ll be okay. But when you’ve been making the same success moves and things go down, and they WILL, then ask yourself: “What am I made of?” Ask yourself: “What can I be doing now that will get me over this hump?” Ask yourself: “Would I be doing anything else in life?” Your answers are your own. What’s in YOUR core?
