Debt Advice & The Pre-Budget Report

Tuesday, December 30th, 2008

Melanie Taylor

Debt advice played an important part in the Chancellor’s Pre-Budget report, revealing just how important the Government thinks it is for people with debt problems to seek debt advice earlier, rather than later.

On direct.gov.uk, the section ‘Debt advice services’ is one of only three sections on the ‘helping people in financial difficulty’ page. The section states that: ‘The government is committed to ensuring that any family facing debts which they can’t manage can access free impartial debt advice to help them get back on track.’

It also says that ‘The Pre-Budget Report announced additional government funding of £5.85 million for an extension of telephone advice services, and £10 million to extend face-to-face advice services, to ensure everyone has access to free debt advice when they need it’.

Whatever the economic climate, debts can always be a problem if the borrower can’t keep up with the repayments. In other words, debt advice always has an important role to play, helping people learn to budget, negotiate with their lenders, plan ahead – and one day get out of debt altogether.

At a time like this, however, with the threat of deflation hanging over the economy – and the threat of unemployment hanging over many individuals – debt advice is more vital than ever. Already, borrowers everywhere are finding their budgets stretched to the limit: any decrease in their income could easily push them over the limit.

In other words, now is – for many people – the time to start really working on paying off their debts. Some people, like bankers and estate agents, were ‘hit’ by the economic troubles last year. Others are worried about their job security in the near future. Still others are working in industries which so far don’t seem to have been hit by the country’s economic problems, but which could be eventually. But whether they’re worried about coping with a lower income in six months or in two years, their debt could be much easier to deal with if they can pay off as much as possible in the meantime!

Which explains why the Government is spending over £15 million extra to ensure people can access the debt advice they need. However, the Government-funded services are by no means the only ones providing debt advice. Various companies also provide free debt advice and debt help.

Many of those companies also provide websites that contain all kinds of debt advice. This kind of online debt advice can be helpful, providing people in debt with anything from ‘do-it-yourself’ guides and budget forms to useful addresses and phone numbers.

Even so, it’s no substitute for the personalised, back-and-forth debt advice that can only come over the phone or face-to-face. Basically, everyone’s debt problems are different, and the best way of tackling them is to talk to someone who knows what questions to ask so they can build up a complete picture of their debt situation and advise them on the best course of action, whether that means a professional debt solution or just a few lifestyle changes.

Consolidating Your Student Loans - Tips For College Debt Management

Tuesday, December 30th, 2008

Mark B. Allen

Getting through school is a worthwhile accomplishment. You start a new life, hopefully launch into a new career, and have to start paying those college bills. By consolidating your student loans into a single payment, you can take advantage of lower monthly payments and possibly receive a longer repayment term. Here are some tips on how to consolidate your college loans to enable you to manage your debts better and enjoy life more while you are doing so.

CHECK FOR BEST INTEREST RATE POSSIBLE

When you ready to consider a consolidation of your student loans, it will be necessary to keep all private loans separate from your federal education loans. They cannot be consolidated together.

The best time to consolidate your college loans is during the 6-month grace period that you get right after you graduate. When you consolidate during that time, you can receive a .6% greater discount in interest than if you wait until the grace period is over. The basic interest rate on consolidation loans for your federal college loans will be the same wherever you go.

CHOOSE NEW PAYMENT PLAN BEFORE CONSOLIDATING

Be sure to talk to your potential lender about what options you have in the way of payments before you sign a loan agreement. There are four main options available to give you the most comfortable repayment deal possible. Here are the various options you have:

• Standard Repayment - equal payments over an extended period, but short enough to reduce interest.

• Graduated Repayment Plan - This plan allows you to start with small payments that increase as your salary increases (for Federal loans only).

• Income-Sensitive Payment Plan - put a stated percentage of your paycheck toward paying off your college loan (for Federal loans only).

• Extended Payment Plan - This plan gives you the most time to pay back your education loan, but you also will pay the most interest.

CONSIDER GOING BACK TO SCHOOL FIRST

If you are thinking about going for a graduate degree, now is the time to make that decision - before you consolidate. Remember that your college loan payments are not due as long as you are going to school half time or more. After you consolidate, however, monthly payments for private college loans are due each month – and they cannot be reversed.

COUNT THE COST OF ALL BENEFITS

The benefits that you receive from the new lender may be different than the benefits you have now. Be sure to understand what privileges and requirements will apply to your new loan once you consolidate. After you sign - you are stuck with whatever you got, and a new consolidation is not possible.

Be careful to consider all of the costs to you that may apply. Anytime that you extend the length of the payments you are also increasing the amount of the interest that you will pay. While you do want the time period of repayment to be long enough to be comfortable, it is not a good idea to take as long as possible – unless it is absolutely necessary. When you consolidate private college loans, make sure that you can pay off the loan early without any penalty fees applying.

Before you apply for a college loan consolidation, you will want to calculate your budget to make sure that you leave enough money each month for you to be able to enjoy some things and possibly even move forward in your career and life. Also, do not forget that your interest rates become locked once you consolidate. This means you will need to leave some extra money for annual cost of living increases.

CONSOLIDATE EARLY TO AVOID CREDIT PROBLEMS

When you need to consider consolidating your college loans, you do not want to wait very long. Besides enabling you to take advantage of the lower interest rate for federal loans, you can also keep your credit intact. If you wait longer than the grace period and cannot make the payments, you could badly damage your credit and cannot consolidate afterward.

When you default on loan payments, it will be necessary to get caught up before you are allowed to consolidate your debt. This makes it even harder to repair a problem credit rating. Consolidate your college loans early and save yourself the headache later on.

Consolidating college student loans is something many graduates do at some point. Learn how it’s done and everything you need to know about loans, grants and unusual scholarships on FinancialAidFinder. Mark Allen is an experienced writer whose insights help parents and students.

What to Know About Womens Car Insurance and Why is it Cheaper?

Tuesday, December 30th, 2008

Billy Young

Every woman at least during one point of time in her life, has experienced fighting to be heard or recognised. Well fortunately, women don’t have to put up a fight when it concerns their car insurance. Womens car insurance is a lot more cheaper than men’s car insurance and here’s why:

Statistics show that men have more accidents than women do. This would result in men making more accident claims with their insurance company than women. When women are involved in accidents, there usually isn’t as much damage to the car as when a man is involved in an accident. This results in a trend reflecting men being more likely to apply for larger claims. There is a higher percentage of women passing their drivers test on the first try than men. Women usually don’t get mixed up in vehicle thefts either. Women drive less distance than men and with short distances there is a less of a chance for a woman to get into an accident. Men are usually the ones up for a long drive which increases their chances of getting into an accident.

Men tend to indulge in racing their car every once in a while when they get a tempting piece of wide open road to race on. Women are cautious drivers and also tend to select more thrifty cheaper cars. So if a woman does end up in an accident it is more affordable for her insurance company to pay for the damages. It is twice as likely for a male driver to be involved in an accident than a female driver. In 2003, approximately 248,000 men were drivers involved in reported car accidents in the UK as opposed to only 102,000 women drivers.

When you inquire about womens car insurance with an insurer it is best to keep in mind your budget and the range of coverage available. There are a variety of policies availabe such as third party only cover; third party, fire and theft cover; or fully comprehensive insurance cover. It is in your best interest to fully understand what each policy entails and what is right for you. If you don’t take the time to understand everything right from the beginning you will end up caught in a tough predicament later, when you realise the damages to your car are not covered by the insurance policy you purchased. The cheapest policy is not necessarily the best insurance policy as it may not provide you the full coverage you need.

Ask if your insurance company provides additional coverage extras such as glass coverage, legal expense coverage or road rage coverage. Glass cover offers coverage on your car if the windows of your vehicle break under certain circumstances. Legal expense coverage is when the insurer will pay for the expenses caused to you if an accident requires you to hire legal help to represent you in a court of law. With road rage coverage, if you are involved in a road rage accident, the insurer will pay for any damages that your vehicle has suffered.

Obtain quotes from a number of insurers to be able to compare and see which one is offering you the best deal. In today’s day and age you have the convenience of shopping around for insurance quotes within the comfort of your own home by just calling up insurers on the phone or by getting a free quote online. Once you have narrowed down and selected one or two insurers you are interested in, you can then make an appointment to visit them and get detailed information about their womens car insurance policy.

Finding Cheap Taxi Insurance

Tuesday, December 30th, 2008

Eric Token

Usually, the biggest mistake that taxi drivers make while purchasing taxi insurance is buying the most expensive one, only to find that cheap taxi insurance provides a much better cover compared to what they just signed up for. It is but human nature that more expensive things appear to be more tantalising, but this should not be the case when it comes to private hire insurance. While purchasing insurance you must keep in mind a few tips which can be of real help in getting affordable and cheap insurance for your taxi.

You can start with composing a list on all the known companies that offer cheap taxi insurance. A little research can help you to check the services and reputation of these companies. It is important to eliminate possible defaulters from your list and arrive at one which contains all those national and local insurance companies, which are reliable and trustworthy. The benefit of choosing a national insurance company is that your private hire insurance coverage is valid all over the country.

The next step is to collect the quotes from all the insurance companies present in your list. You can personally visit or call the company’s office to get taxi insurance quotes. Once you are done with the job of collecting quotes then is the time to do a little comparative study. Along with the prices you must also compare the coverage being offered by these insurance companies, and decide on what type of plan suits your requirement the best. A little time spent on research can be extremely rewarding. Once you have decided upon the company then you can begin the negotiations. In fact, a little skilled bargaining will help get you a good deal. It is quite common to see insurance companies quoting higher prices but leaving scope for good deals, which can only happen if you have done your homework and you know what you are dealing with.

Now if you are relatively busy and find this whole process a bit time consuming then there is an easier way out. To save on some precious time and energy you can consider shopping online for private hire insurance. The process is undoubtedly speedier and definitely more convenient. Spend some time looking up the websites of some of the insurance companies that offer cheap insurance. You can even find information on websites that offer reviews of various insurance products. One more thing you can do is to search for reliable taxi insurance brokers. You can collect the rates from different brokers in a very short period of time. It is definitely going to be a much faster process when compared to visiting or calling various taxi insurance brokers.

Once you make up your mind, you can discuss the details with the chosen insurance broker and make sure that you get the one which has maximum coverage. There are many benefits of buying your taxi insurance online. It is not only time saving but it also gives you a chance to search the markets thoroughly and get hold of the best deals available.

eTaxi Quote Direct guarantees you to drive down the cost of your taxi insurance, it also offers professional advice and the best value for private hire insurance.

Is Network Marketing (aka Multi Level Marketing or MLM) the Right Business For You? – Part II

Tuesday, December 30th, 2008

Daniel Herzner

In Part I of this article, I raised the question of whether or not the entrepreneurial path is right for you. After all, not everyone is cut out to be an entrepreneur. I also gave you some food for thought to help you determine if perhaps a network marketing business is an option worthy of your consideration. At this point, an assumption is being made that you’ve read part I and have determined that you do have the entrepreneurial spirit and you’re interested in network marketing. So, with that said, let’s go ahead and dig a little deeper, shall we?

Firstly, are you a people person? Network marketing is a true “people helping people” business and this is a good thing. When you’re working with, and helping others, you’re essentially helping them to solve their problems. And, many people who win in business are successful because they’re great problem solvers. Think about it, on a grand scale, Bill Gates is one of the world’s wealthiest people because his company creates software to help people and businesses solve problems. On a smaller, localized scale, think of the successful restaurant known for good quality, inexpensive food. Their success stems from helping mom and dad solve the “what’s for dinner” dilemma.

One more thing worthy of mention on this people helping people concept: it’s been said that a certain path to getting everything in life you want is to help enough other people get what they want in life. The more people you help, the better your chances of realizing the success you seek.

Are you coachable? This may be the most important question you’ll need to answer to determine if MLM is the right business for you. Let me explain: most people who get involved with network marketing (aka MLM, multi level marketing or social marketing) do not have any kind of a meaningful business background. Operating a successful business requires a number of crucial business skills. These skills include effective communication, organization and most of all, marketing.

If you do not possess these skills that’s OK. As long as you’re open to working with your upline people to develop yourself as a business person you’ll be fine. Some people think they already know everything and their way is the best way or the only way. If that person is you then there’s a good chance network marketing is not for you. Building a successful MLM business requires some outside the box thinking so being able to accept instruction from those more experienced is important.

Are you thorough? Anything done half fast is never good enough in business. If you get involved in a business and you’re provided with a plan and directions from your upline then it’s up to you to follow through with those plans. Cutting corners and weak efforts on your part will not fly. As it’s been said; in business, “good enough” is never good enough.

Of course, who you choose to work with to start a network marketing business is critical. If you’ll be taking business coaching and business plans from somebody else, you better darn well make sure that person knows their stuff. You can read books and study courses on building the skills you’ll need to succeed in business and I highly recommend that you do. But, your upline sponsor should be the person you wish to become.

There’s no doubt that working with the right people to build a network marketing business is of the utmost importance. However, your success is your responsibility. To succeed, you’ll need to think like a business person, act like a business person and conduct yourself in every way like a true business person. If you treat your network marketing business like a hobby it will lead to frustration and eventually failure. If you treat it like the legitimate business that it is, then you’ll be giving yourself a great chance of succeeding. Note I said “giving yourself a great chance”. Nobody will build your business for you. They’ll help you, oh yes they will, but they’re not going to do the required work for you. That, my friend, is up to you. Are you ready for the challenge?

This is the fourth in a series of articles on the MLM / social marketing / network marketing industry. In the next article I’ll give you some ideas on what you’d want to look for in the person or people you choose to do business with. Your business partners, on many levels, are even more important than the business you get involved in.

If you’d like to ensure that you don’t miss out on any installments in this series, I’d be happy to send past and future articles directly to you. Just shoot me an email and I’ll include you on my direct distribution list.

Commercial Sign Lights For Building Exteriors

Tuesday, December 30th, 2008

R. Neal

Many contractors, sole proprietor lighting design consultants, and do it yourself landscapers often fail to include sign lights in their commercial lighting systems. Many times this is because they misperceive them as an unnecessary expense. Actually, commercial sign lights are extremely important and a wise investment that brings many returns. These lights will advertise a brand throughout all hours of the night, making a strong unconscious impression on the minds of passing motorists and pedestrians that see it from the road. In many industries such as retail and hospitality, the sign is an absolute necessity because it serves not only as a branding tool, but also as a magnet that draws people in. Commercial sign lighting in these environments has to be energy efficient because fixtures remain on for at least 6-8 hours on the average every night. Commercial sign lights must also be able to weather the elements without the quality of light degrading over time. It is also wise to use fixtures that not only compliment the size of the sign, but also match its color scheme and position in order to create a truly seamless fit, as the whole purpose of sign lighting is to highlight the colors and lettering without drawing attention to lighting equipment.

Commercial sign lighting fixtures by RLL Design offer a number of competitive advantages that can help you achieve the three musts of commercial sign lighting: proper distance, correct angle of incidence, and intensity of lighting itself. This inventory offers a great deal of freedom for both the do it yourself installer and the seasoned veteran of lighting design. Many signs sit atop buildings on strut supports similar to billboards. Others mount high on poles, while others resemble monuments in the ground that mark the entrance to a government office, restaurant, hotel, commercial headquarters, or industrial warehouse. Many industrial companies also brand their warehouse or factory with lettering on the side of the building itself, effectively turning the structure itself into a sign. Commercial sign lighting here must produce an exceptional vertical foot-candle print without consuming too much energy. By making a variety of commercial sign light styles and models available, RLL Design allows contractors and business owners to match exact fixtures to the many building types and sign designs found throughout any given community. Angled reflectors and gooseneck style fixtures come with a variety of accessory mounts so they can be custom mounted to virtually any surface at optimal distance to produce optimal foot-candle levels for clear visibility from roadways and parking lots. They also feature specially sealed lenses to protect lamps from water and dirt intrusion.

In order to make commercial sign lighting not only brand competitive, but also cost conscious from the standpoint of obtaining a return on investment, it is essential that you first carefully consider just how much voltage and wattage you actually need to light your commercial sign. Most do it yourselfers, regardless of experience or knowledge, often overestimate in order to make certain they have adequate levels of light. This tends to run up a high power bill, and it also often results in a service call to a professional that has to retrofit equipment with a higher energy rating. With RLLD, this is never a concern. One of the many benefits both professionals and end users can expect from us is energy savings across the board. For commercial sign lights that require incandescent-based lamps, we carry low voltage fixtures in models that minimize power consumption during extended hours of use. Additionally, our experts also look for ways to equip commercial sign lighting fixtures with fluorescent and LED lamps whenever possible. This is a very important service we provide that helps strictly budgeted clients make the most of their dollars. Organizations such as non-profit entities, small municipality government buildings, and schools can benefit greatly from fluorescent, LED, and low voltage specialty commercial sign lights.

One final benefit that government, corporate, small business, retail, and academic clients can also trust RLLD to deliver is reduced maintenance costs. Although many commercial sign lighting fixtures are comparatively small and feature sophisticated lamping and wiring technology, precision o-ring sealed lenses protect lamps from dust and water ingress. Both gooseneck and angled reflector fixtures are protected by a chromate conversion process and polyester powder coat finish to make RLLD commercial sign lights super corrosion resistant. Commercial designers working in salt air environments, humid climates, and heavily polluted areas can assure their clients that a one time investment in gooseneck or angled reflector sign lights can keep their brand clearly visible and economically lit for many years to come.

Wall Packs–Outdoor Commercial HID & Metal Halide Wall Pack Lighting Fixtures

Tuesday, December 30th, 2008

R. Neal

The best way to determine the type and number of wall packs your client is going to need is to have RLLD Commercial Lighting conduct a detailed photometric analysis of your client’s facility. We have invested heavily in some of the world’s most advanced lighting design software that will enable us to calculate the necessary foot-candle density around the building, the lumens per watt efficiency necessary to keep your client in compliance with local lighting codes, and the positive economic impact that more efficient fixtures will have on your client’s facility.

By making these determinations first, we can help you narrow down the options to the wall packs that best fit the criteria required to give your client’s site the type of illumination it needs. Many of our wall packs are designed with the deliberate intention of creating security lighting around a building. Any industrial client or distribution center you are contracted by is going to want to know how these fixtures can keep their facility safe from intrusion and vandalism. Other facilities, such as public centers with a great deal of nighttime pedestrian traffic, are going to need wall packs that illuminate walkways for people to better see. Still other clients may want something decorative around the building, and wall packs can provide a very ambient and cost effective lighting source to this effect.

Finding wall packs is not difficult because there are so many models to choose from. However, finding the one that offers a near perfect fit to your client’s needs is a different matter. Our staff will be happy to go over the photometric analysis with members of your team and present multiple options for you to pass on to your clients. In this sense, we function as an adjunct consulting service as well as an equipment vendor.

All of our wall packs, too, feature some degree of energy efficiency. The ever popular metal halide lamp is now available in pulse start technology, allowing an MH wall pack to instantly power on whereas in the past it took a few moments to fully illuminate. This now makes it possible for you to integrate your clients wall packs into motion sensors that will turn on the lights that are attached to the building in addition to the flood lights around the building.

We also provide zero sight line wall packs that prevent the beams from your fixtures from being seen above the roof of your building. If you are uncertain as to the nature of dark sky laws in your client’s community, do not waste time calling city hall. Call us, and we will research local lighting regulations in detail for you.

All of our wall packs are made in the USA and backed up by manufacturer warranties. Additionally, we obtain our wall packs from a number of impartial manufacturers, not a single source. This means we have no quotas to meet and no hidden agendas in what we propose as the best possible fixtures for your client. Our recommendations are not made based upon preference for a particular manufacturer or style of fixture, but rather on the basis of determining what needs to be done for your client, then looking through our distribution channels to find the model that provides an exact match to your client’s requirements.

Because we have access to so many wall packs, you will not have to wait on parts to arrive when you obtain them from RLLD Commercial Lighting. Our special relationships with American manufacturers enable us to have your wall packs drop shipped ASAP directly to your client’s location without having to pass through third party distribution channels. This can shave as much as a month off the wait time you may normally experience when working with other suppliers that are bound to exclusive manufacturer agreements or tied to limited geographic areas.

This makes it easy to use RLLD Commercial Lighting as a streamlined channel through which you can obtain different models, wattages, and lamp options from two or more different manufacturers on a single purchase order.

How to Build and Profit From Websites

Tuesday, December 30th, 2008

MARK BARKOW

You don’t need lots of knowledge and vast experience to build and maintain websites that you create to profit from. There are various ways to make them a tool for the creation of wealth. Let’s take a look at some of these ways to get them to work for us.

1. Local Business Website Creation

Go to local business owners and try to sell them on the idea and financial advantages of having their own professional website. Some local advertising in newspapers or magazines can get you started also, but expect most of your business to come from word of mouth advertising. Do a good job for one business person, and he will tell his business friends about your services.

You can charge your customers for the initial design and setup of the website. You should help them develop a unique theme for their new site based on the advantages of doing business with them compared to their competitors. Keep the website easy and uncomplicated to build at first so that the cost for your services can initially be very affordable for business owner and you can still make a decent profit off of it. Later on you can spruce up the site to make it even more attractive.

You will also be making money by maintaining any ongoing support that the site will definitely need in the future. Because of this, try to make the site as easy to maintain and support as you can with the future in mind. You will be charging recurring fees for your services, such as updates, improvements, website hosting, submission and search engine optimization. Other ways to make money off of it include traffic analysis, cultivating a mailing list for the business owner, and finding ways to get more traffic to the site to increase business.

One does not need to be extremely proficient at programming to provide these additional services that can be part of your standard workload for maintaining the site. Free and other sources of low cost scripts and other resources are readily available online for you to use. You can be charging for services such as autoresponders, pop up windows, chat rooms, submission forms, animated graphics, and other services that contribute to the website looks and performance.

2. Use the Internet to sell websites

You can be constructing shopping portals, web stores, and search engines, and sell them online.

Some people are able to build sites easily by using templates that are well adapted to the kind of site you want to build, or sites can be built from scratch. You can sell these sites on the Internet as turnkey business, use sites such as eBay to sell on.

Another thing you can do is find free services that are online and resell them after improvements. For example, there are plenty of free webstores available online. Go buy and register a domain name, get low cost web hosting, and host this store on your hosting account. Promote this website by getting traffic to it. Then you can place this turnkey business on Ebay on an auction site and sell to the highest bidder.

Just be sure that you set a reserve price high enough so that the bidding price has to start from a figure that will assure you a small profit. You will be transferring the domain name to the winner of the auction, the new owner of the site..

3. Internet Marketing

You can build your very own website based on a niche that you research and determine would be worthwhile your time promoting. You have to make sure there is sufficient interest in this market and it is worth promoting. Then you can go find some affiliate programs related to the niche that the site is about. These affiliate programs promote products and services that you can make money off of by selling.

To keep the commissions and sales coming and increasing, you will be maintaining the site on a regular basis by updating the content, adding and deleting products, working on increasing traffic, etc.

In conclusion, there are many ways to benefit financially from the building and maintaining of websites.
