Educate, research, create, test and then take action. If you want to start making money from home with affiliate marketing the possibilities can be overwhelming. So overwhelming in fact that you don’t know where to begin and then never take action.

There was never a better time to start making money from home with affiliate marketing. Why? Because there is so much out there for you to take advantage of to start your online business fairly easily. Unlike other businesses you don’t have to start from a blank sheet. The internet itself is your prime source and that is where to begin.

1. Educate Yourself to Start Making Money From Home

Become an insatiable learner. There are so many opportunities to access information about beginning to start making money from home that you will be spoilt for choice. All you have to do is put your topic into a search engine.

The best places to look for information when you want to start making money from home are through articles and topic forums.

Keep a notebook and take notes of names of people if they come up repeatedly. These are probably the leaders in a field. Look for people who give out information generously and don’t immediately ask you to pay for something up front. The best educators are often the ones with the best products and services.

2. Research is The Key to Start Making Money From Home

Once you have got a feel of how people start making money from home with affiliate marketing you can focus on a specific area. You want to find out who is doing what. What are they offering? Are they good quality products or services?

There may be a lot of information to digest when you decide to start making money from home. The key is to be both specific and general with your chosen topic so that you have a large pool of possible customers. It is always a balance. As someone has said - you are designing a specialist shop, not a shopping mall.

3. Create Your Unique Business and Start Making Money From Home

I know it is difficult, but at some point you have to suspend the research (never stop completely) in order to put your toe in the water. If you have a blog or website already set up, that’s obviously where to start making money from home with affiliate marketing.

You may think you are not creative but if you are interested in a topic you want to find out if other people are interested too. This is where a blog is a great tool because they can so easily comment on your writing. In fact, one way to find out what people want and need is to ask them.

For instance, you may have a blog about fishing. You can start by asking them what is it that they want to learn, or what they find hard to buy etc. When you have some comments you can research a bit more to see what is already online that you can sell on someone else’s behalf and start to earn commission. This is how you start making money online with affiliate marketing.

4. Test the Water and Start Making Money From Home

None of us get it right first time, but if you have done your research you have at least gained some insight into your probable market so that you can start making money from home. So now is the time to sign up as an affiliate with a few businesses.

You will get a better response if you have a variety of products at a variety of prices. Ultimately, what you are trying to do is to capture them as an interested reader, then as a low cost customer and eventually as a buyer of higher priced products or services.

This will not happen overnight or even in a couple of months. They like to get to know you, so be generous with the information they can find on your site.

5. Get Into Action to Start Making Money From Home

If you spend too much time on any of the previous steps, you will not start making money from home with your affiliate marketing business. You need to keep repeating steps 1 - 5 again and again. Adding products to offer to your visitors whilst continuously providing them with useful information.

Your visitors and customers want fresh material and new opportunities. Make sure you keep coming up with this for them and they will keep coming back for more. With these steps and focus you will start making money from home easier than you thought possible.

Start an Antiques Business

Sunday, August 17th, 2008

Aidan James

How about another great home business idea? One that is rewarding in more ways than just the profit (and there is lots of profit potential!). An antiques business is full of opportunity to learn, make friends and earn some serious coin. It is also one of those great businesses that can be as little or as large as you want or need it to be.

The skills required are some knowledge of antiques and the antiques trade, the eye for a bargain and maybe some handyman skills if you plan on doing some restoration. Because the market is so broad its often best to specialize in one area of the business. This can also be a smart idea if you are keeping this to very much a work at home business and so have limited space. You can then become expert in your particular field very quickly.

The market sectors range from the obvious to the obscure but no matter how obscure, someone is looking to buy the pieces and someone else is making a mint by serving the sector. This might seem obvious but you would be surprised how many enterprising souls start their antiques business in say furniture or porcelain where there is much less opportunity to break through successfully as sectors like those are very crowded and thus competitive. Best to find yourself a less crowded sector like antique toys and dolls or other specialty.

You can source your goods from house clearances, deceased estate sales, advertisements and notices in local newspapers and boards and of course by word of mouth. Your sales can be by private sale through classifieds, markets or of course auctions including online auctions like ebay. You don’t have to be a dealer of course, there are many interested folk doing very nicely out of restoration for example, so if you don’t fancy the dealing part of the business that might be an avenue for you.

Most who get into antiques actually thrive on the thrill of negotiating a purchase or a sale and are always on the lookout for a bargain either way. You want to buy at as low a price as possible while selling as high as you can to maximize profit. This is where specialization can be particularly handy. A good knowledge of the subject to hand will allow you to spot the bargain. It is even possible to get bargains from long established traders if you know more than them about a particular item.

You can also make good money teaching others about antiques either at community college type classes or on a website, you are not likely to be short of an audience as the interest in antiques seems universal and millions of people are looking online for information on antiques.

Possibly the greatest thing about the business though is the ability to choose just how deeply you want to get into the antique business, a little or a lot, some extra cash or a whole living, its all completely up to you.

Plugging the it Skills Gap: Should we be Encouraging More Skilled Foreign Workers?

Sunday, August 17th, 2008

Karl Parkinson

In a recent report by the Work Foundation, entitled Towards a global labour market? Globalisation and the knowledge market, the issue of using skilled foreign workers to help plug skills gap in UK industries was explored. The report concluded that there was an identified need to encourage more migrant workers, from both inside and outside of the European Union, in order to secure the future growth of technology and knowledge intensive industries, in a global economy.

This report was supported by numerous industry experts and is certainly one way to plug the gap and solve the problem of the skills shortage. However, while encouraging skilled foreign workers to enter UK industries in need of skills is an option, isn’t there something to be said for exploiting the existing capabilities of people here in the UK through providing both the financial and vocational support necessary to become ‘skilled’ first? But how, with so many restrictions placed on obtaining Government funding, can this become a realistic solution?

The career changer

The missing link is training and encouraging career changers to move from areas that aren’t affected by a lack of skills, into areas that are. People, here in the UK, need to be encouraged and supported by the Government to retrain for a career in the sectors that are threatened by skills shortages, such as IT and engineering. The current system falls short as funding for Government training schemes is channeled through employers; so training for a new career whilst working is inaccessible for thousands of people unable to fund themselves.

Moving forward with funding

The recent announcement that 18- to 25-year-olds in some parts of England who have never passed A-levels or got good GCSEs will be given an online skills account with the equivalent of £7,000 in credits is a breakthrough in this area. However, whilst this is a step in the right direction there’s still a long way to go with regards to providing funding for qualifications demanded by industry. For many young people, the prospect of learning towards qualifications that they have already failed or could not relate to at school or college is discouraging to say the least.

In my view, providing funding issues are addressed, it is schemes like this which have the potential to enable industry to plug the IT skills gap and for individuals to gain useful and recognised qualifications of their choice. And this should be our primary focus. Giving choice and financial incentive to train offers a positive outlook for individuals and should be a reassurance to industry that there is a solution to the IT skills crisis.

Going one step further would be to open up these funding options for career changers – those who are in low-skilled and unfulfilling jobs who have the enthusiasm and ability to train for jobs in demand in industries such as IT. I recognise the need and value of bringing in highly skilled overseas workers to fulfil positions in the UK short term, but the Government’s long term strategy to develop the workforce must be rooted in a culture of training, development and opportunity.

Affiliate Marketing Success – 7 Essential Skills

Sunday, August 17th, 2008

Trisha Stone

There are some ways to help you to become a successful affiliate marketer even if you are only spending a few hours a week working at it.

The most obvious is that you must enjoy the Internet. Now this may seem ridiculous, but I know of people who started out with affiliate marketing who dislike the Internet. Worse than that - they are afraid of it. For you to be successful you must enjoy the whole experience, be curious about what is out there and how you can harness that to work for you.

You don’t have to invent the whole system, as that has already been done for us by someone else, thank Goodness. Many people have built the systems that make it all work, especially in the affiliate marketing field, so you don’t have to be particularly “techi”. Just be prepared to follow the system and don’t get fazed if it doesn’t do what you hope or expect it to do first time.

It can help later on if you are prepared to learn something about how it all works, but it is not essential. Many very successful Internet based businesses are run by people who do none of the technical stuff. They just hire people to do it for them, and there are plenty of those out there.

Time is really important, especially if you have a day job. I know people who get up at 6 a.m., do 2 hours of their own Internet work, work a full day and then work on the Internet again until midnight when they get home. Not all of us are so driven and not all of us are prepared to give up that amount of our lives.

Be honest with yourself about how many hours a week you can dedicate to your affiliate business. Whatever you decide your available time is, say 2 evenings a week + 6 hours at the weekend - you choose. It is more important to keep to that time on a regular basis than try to cram more hours in. Once you have made your timetable, try to stick to it.

Consistency is the key. Think about it as though you are keeping appointments with yourself. Put your allocated time in your diary and think of it as a commitment to yourself. Why I suggested the 10 hours above is because it is do-able for most people. However, we all have different habits and you should choose the times that fit in with your life whilst not interfering with it.

Ability to set your own goals helps towards your success. Remember - you are going to be your own master or mistress in this enterprise. There will be no boss or colleague to nag you or make demands on you. It is all up to you, so you need to have a certain amount of self-discipline to keep this all going over time.

Don’t forget that you do have to work hard at it. It is not a get rich quick strategy. Please don’t believe all the hype that is around on this. Even the most successful Internet business leaders have spent years and thousands of hours perfecting their products and services. However, the advantage of affiliate marketing is that you can jump onto their bandwagon. You can reap advantage from their expertise and investment.

Finally, there are two essential requirements to be successful with affiliate marketing, and they are patience and determination. As I have said, there are no instant millionaires with affiliate marketing, but there are many, many people who are making a comfortable additional income, and there are no limits to what can be achieved.

Internet Home Business - 5 Key Questions For Beginners Answered

Sunday, August 17th, 2008

Trisha Stone

There may be a variety of reasons why you want to start an internet home business. If you have been searching for possibilities to do so, it is likely that you have come across the term “affiliate marketing”.

1. What is Affiliate Marketing?

Affiliate marketing an ideal way to start an internet home business. It is the process by which you put out information, in a variety of ways, to promote a particular product or service and you get paid a commission on your sales. Commission rates are set at the time you sign up and are usually paid automatically to you through your unique ID via a secure payment system.

The beauty of this type of internet home business is that you don’t have to spend valuable time creating your own products but can jump onto someone else’s bandwagon. If you are looking for ways to add to your present income or want to start an internet home business, affiliate marketing is one of the easiest places to start.

2. Is there Enough Internet Home Business Out There?

I recently “Googled” ‘affiliate marketing’ and it came back with nearly 15 million listings. Internet home business opportunities are absolutely huge. You may think that affiliate marketing opportunities are all sown up already. It might appear so, but the reality is that if you have a particular interest or expertise you can create internet home business niche affiliates market all of your own.

Focusing in on a specialised niche is the key when it comes to building an internet home business using affiliate marketing. If you do what everyone else is doing, then you are going to be a very small fish in a huge ocean. If, on the other hand, you choose carefully, your internet home business niche could become a big fish in a small pond. Get the idea?

3. Do I Need A Website if I am Beginning An Internet Home Business?

The short answer is yes - you do need a website. Most simply, this could be in the form of a blog. You can set up a blog in a very short time with either Typepad or Wordpress. Either of these, and there are others, will give you enough of a starter platform for your internet home business to get going.

Don’t get bogged down with designing a website. That can come later. A blog will provide all that you need to start to promote your internet home business and talk about products and services as an affiliate marketer.

4. Where Do I Find Products to Sell Online?

To get started as quickly as possible you can go to one of the sites such as Clickbank or Paydotcom where you will find thousands of products listed under different categories.

Clickbank and Paydotcom (and there are others) are set up so that once you register with one of them you will be given a unique ID. Then you can browse and find possible products to sell from your internet home business. Everything is carefully laid out for you including the commission rates. You can search for the most successful or the highest or lowest rates. Do remember that the highest rates don’t necessarily mean the best products.

5. How Do I Choose What to Sell?

Earlier I mentioned that you can develop your own internet home business with niche affiliate marketing in whatever field interests you or in which you have some expertise.

Take some time to list what these areas may be, as the more specific you can be, the more likely you are to find a possible niche which will make your internet home business stand out. On the other hand, don’t be so specific that you are really limiting the market you are aiming at. Don’t only look for products or services directly concerned with your chosen niche, but also for others that are related in some way.

Beginning an internet home business with affiliate marketing can be a very exciting way to cash in on something that you have a real passion for in the first place. That passion, together with expertise, will drive your internet home business and will engage your readers and future customers.

Making Money From Home With Affiliate Marketing

Sunday, August 17th, 2008

Trisha Stone

You are probably reading this because you have heard that there are a lot of people out there making money from home with affiliate marketing. This is true - there are some really big affiliate marketers on the Internet, but this doesn’t rule out the beginner. After all, why wouldn’t you want to be making money from home to earn some extra income?

You may already have your own website, or at the very least a blog, and you probably put these up because of a particular interest you have. In fact a blog is all you need to start making money from home with no start up costs or risks.

Whatever your platform is, you can use it as an affiliate marketer without having to do anything very different. Well there is a difference. Even a simple blog can start you on the road to making money from home.

A lot of people are speaking about making money from home especially with a looming recession. This may appeal to you because:

• You are fed up with your job and dream of doing something different

• You are based at home anyway, looking after children or others

• You are retired, but are still interested in doing something different

• You are just fascinated by the Internet and everything that it offers

• You just want some more money

Everybody’s reasons will be different, or they may have a combination of reasons. This is why making money from home through affiliate marketing is one of the fastest growing sectors on the Internet.

Affiliate marketing is a good way to start out because:

• There is no cost to you to making money from home when you join an affiliation program

• There is no risk to you – if you choose right

• The more time you can put into making money from home the greater your rewards

• It is a great opportunity to earn extra income whilst you do something you are interested in or even passionate about

If you have dreamed of working for yourself then making money from home with affiliate marketing can be your dreams come true. You make money based on your own hard work. You are the one rewarded for your efforts, not a boss or a group of shareholders.

Better still if you have a creative streak. Just think of all the creativity you utilize on someone else’s behalf in your day job. Think how great it would be to use these skills on your own behalf instead when you are focused on making money from home just for yourself and your family.

Making money from home with affiliate marketing is ideal because you can use hours outside of your working hours to get things started and see how it goes. Maybe even $100 or $300 with making money from home would make all the difference to you on a regular basis. This is not beyond expectation when you are starting out.

I know that you see many adverts about making 6 figure sums with Internet marketing. Many people do, but rather than believing that this will happen overnight there is nothing better than building up your expertise whilst earning a few hundred dollars a month making money from home with affiliate marketing.

You can be making money from home without the worries of the setup costs of a business. It can take 3 – 5 years for new businesses to get into profit. Everyone knows that most small businesses fail within those first 3 years. This way you get to build things up slowly with very low costs. How great is that?

Best Affiliate Programs – Research is the Key

Sunday, August 17th, 2008

Trisha Stone

It is very tempting to jump in and sign up for the first affiliate program that appeals to you. How do you know which are the best affiliate programs. What is the competition? Is it a good price or is someone selling it cheaper? You need to do some hard-edged research to find the best affiliate programs right from the beginning.

To find the best affiliate programs put your area of interest into a search engine such as Google. For instance dog grooming. Put “dog grooming” into the search engine. Just note here that I have put parentheses around the words. This is so the search engine only comes up with sites with these two words together. If you don’t do this you will get all the sites containing ‘dog’ and ‘grooming’ separately.

First of all, see what the top sites are for this search item. Not all will be relevant. Check through a few pages of these and see what they are talking about or selling. When you have got some ideas, and this can take time, then do another search - this time put in ‘dog grooming “affiliate program”’ because you are now looking for the best affiliate programs. Notice this time I have put the parentheses around the ‘affiliate program’.

I also advise that you do other searches around your main topic because you are not always looking for exact matches but relevant matches. This brings me to my next point. You need to be looking for a range of the best affiliate programs for products or services.

After all, what might appeal to you as the best affiliate programs, which answers all your needs, might not do it for someone else. By having a range of products to offer you begin to look as though you are someone who has a wider interest than say “dog grooming in Utah”. Successful affiliate marketers are those that carefully choose the best affiliate programs across their sector.

Try, even early in your learning process, to think about what will make your particular business unique. What will set you apart? How will you differentiate yourself?

The best ways to differentiate your affiliate business is you! You are unique and have a unique way of thinking about things. This is particularly relevant if you are going to be using your blog as your main way of promoting the best affiliate programs. Getting a reputation for choosing the best affiliate programs will bring your customers back again and again.

What can you be saying, offering or reviewing with your own personal slant? After all, the best blogs have their own personal style, quirks, humor etc. Think about this when you are selecting the best affiliate programs.

The more research you do the more informed you will be about the best affiliate programs, but don’t spend weeks and weeks on this. Decide on a cut off point and stick to it. Nothing is more time wasting than spending too much time on research and never getting into action.

You won’t get it all right at the beginning. The most important thing is to start with the best affiliate programs you can source and enough information to allow you to take your first steps into affiliate marketing.
