Comparing the Top 3 Gas Credit Cards

Loren Yadeski

Gas cards are a sure way to stretch you gasoline budget. Since last year that gas prices have been soaring to records high, the use of gas credit cards have been spreading non-stop like wild fire. There are a lot of gas credit cards out there, each with its own features. But which one is best suited for you? I scouted the net for gas credited cards, and below are the top 3 gas cards that I found.

Discover® Open Road Card

Discover Open Road Card carries no annual fee and offers up to 5% rebate or rewards points on gas purchases and auto maintenance expenses. Rewards points can be redeemed in the form of cash backs only. While it’s annual percentage rate or APR is at 10.99%.

BP Visa® Rewards Card

The BP Visa Rewards Card is a BP exclusive card that offers a 10% unlimited rebate on gas purchases during its twelve- month introductory period. For the regular months, this card offers a 5% unlimited rebate. Moreover, this card carries no annual fee but charges an APR of 11.99%.

Blue Cash® from American Express®

The Blue Cash card from American Express offers an unlimited 5% rebate on gas purchases and charges a 9.99% APR on the maintaining balance.

The three cards above are not ranked on any order since each has different features. Comparing cards would depend on your gas consumption habits. Generally, cards can be compared according to three criteria- percentage on rebates, annual percentage rate or APR and flexibility.

Rebate percentage

All three cards offer a regular rebate percentage of 5%. However, the BP Visa Rewards Card offers an additional bonus-10% rebate on the first twelve months. So, the number one card in terms of rebate percentage is the BP Visa Rewards Card. The other two cards offer the same percentage but can be ranked depending on your gas budget. The Discover Open Road Card has a rebate cap or a limited cash back reward. So if your budget goes over its rebate cap, then this card falls to rank three.

Annual Percentage Rate or APR

If you plan on maintaining a balance on your card, then you fall into this criterion in ranking cards. The card with the lowest annual percentage rate-9.99% is the Blue Cash from American Express. This card takes the first place, while Discover Open Road and BP Visa Rewards cards take second and third places, respectively.

Flexibility

The affiliated gas station is what is being referred to by this flexibility criterion. The BP Visa Rewards card offers the highest percentage rebate but it is a BP exclusive card. It can only be used at BP stations. If you live across town from a BP station, then the Discover Open Road and Blue Cash from American Express cards are the only options for you.

There you have it, the top three cards and their ranks according to three different criteria. Choosing a card will be as easy as one, two, three!
